The recent report Communications report Australia in the digital economy: The shift to the online environment published by the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) reveals that ‘at June 2010, 77 per cent of the population aged 14 years and over had access to the internet at home, 40 per cent at work and 15 per cent at locations other than home or work.

This literature review was undertaken by the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER) with the intention of identifying existing approaches to the evaluation of the OLPC programs globally. It was expected that there would be few examples, partly because the OLPC program is a relatively recent initiative, and this has proved to be the case.

Problem-based learning is one of many progressive pedagogies that might be combined with open education. This paper defines problem-based learning in the context of open education. Unique challenges are presented and discussed alongside possible solutions, realistic limitations, and calls for implementation in the future to test validity.

Making the case for space: three years of empirical research on learning environments

In this empirical university study at the University of Minnesota comparing traditional lecture environments with Active Learning Classroom (ALC) environments where digital technologies were deployed, the researchers found some astounding effects on student performance.

Where does the information come from? Information source use patterns in Wikipedia

This article reports the results of a Web survey of information source use patterns, answered by 108 Wikipedia contributors in spring 2008. The results indicate that there are several distinct groups of contributors using different information sources.
