Welcome to the Digital Education Research Network (DERN) for 2014. At the start of each school and academic year, teaching subjects and courses for the coming year are often reviewed and resources allocated. Questions invariably arise about the benefits of learning with digital technologies and the best ways they can be deployed for teaching and learning; that is, what are the current technology trends? The research that has been reviewed here summarises the benefits of teaching and learning with digital technologies from studies between 2000 to 2012. In addition, the major technology trends in education, based on large-scale survey data, have been summarised.
