A recent article in the Journal of e-Learning and Knowledge Society highlighted in the DERN Newsletter has brought together a very succinct history of the open education movement. The paper The Challenge of Open Education provides a perspective of open education that challenges the traditional notion of higher education provision. The Challenge of Open Education also brings together in one place a number of links to some prominent databases of open educational online content. This is particularly useful for staff in higher education and training institutions because locating relevant OERs has been difficult and uncoordinated.
