Student capabilities and attitudes towards ICT in the early years

This study investigated the use of ICT in the Early Years (R-3) in two diverse school settings. Students were surveyed to investigate their use of ICT at home and school. The findings presented, focus on student’s self-assessed capabilities and attitudes using ICT and explore differences between the responses from the two schools.

Legal risks for students using social networking sites

There are significant privacy, intellectual property, copyright and disclosure risks associated with the ill-considered use of social networking sites, however, the implementation of regulatory actions may also undermine the social and emerging educational utility of social networking sites for young people.

The paper looks at the recent history of ICT policy for initial teacher education in the context of student teachers’ views on various components of their ‘education’ in the use of new technology to teach their subject. In spite of the importance attached to this facet of initial training, and significant investment in training materials and resources, there is evidence to suggest that much of this investment is not found to be helpful by students.

This paper reviews the contribution of new information-communication technologies to the advancement of educational assessment.
